Project Management Meets Purpose
Multiple sclerosis (MS) disproportionately affects Black women in the United States, with rising diagnoses and distinct challenges in managing the disease. A recent study indicates that Black individuals have the second-highest prevalence of MS, at approximately 298.4 cases per 100,000 people, following white populations. This rate of diagnosis is increasing, drawing attention to the need for more research and better representation in clinical trials.
It is an honor to support We Are Ill in their current program Empowering Black Women with MS. I knew supporting as project manager would require the fundamental management skillsets. However, it has also allowed me to explore an even greater sense of purpose.
All projects that hit our desk are important. Some are just a little more special. This program has pulled at my heartstrings, taught me so much about MS and definitely not to fail these tremendous ladies. The impact of this program is beyond the project timeline, itβs their livelihood.
The pictures reflect one of our several workshops. In total, we are working with 50 women to support them in various ways. If you or someone you know identifies as a black woman with MS, please be sure to connect with We Are Ill. Also be sure to register for Wellness Weekend!
